A 12-week job search plan that respects German hiring cycles

Twelve weeks is long enough to test a thesis and short enough to force focus. Adjust dates around August holidays and late December slowdowns.

Weekly planner with task lists

Weeks 1–3 — Constraints and thesis

Write the ledger: visa, language, geography, salary floor. Draft two role patterns. Build a first employer list of fifteen names, not fifty. Resist applying widely until the thesis can be spoken in under two minutes.

Weeks 4–6 — Documents and early outreach

Lock a master CV and two variants. Send the first six carefully targeted applications. Begin two networking conversations per week. Track response types (rejection, silence, request for documents) so you can spot pattern failures early.

Weeks 7–9 — Volume with timing

Increase applications only where the scorecard shows fit. Use timing awareness from our Application Timing Lab ideas: avoid dumping every application on the same Monday morning German graduates use. Book mock interviews before first panels arrive.

Weeks 10–12 — Review and redirect

If reply rates stay near zero, change the thesis — title level, city, or sector — rather than rewriting the same bullets. If interviews are happening, shift hours toward preparation and recovery. The German Job Search Roadmap compresses this arc with advisor reviews; this article is the free skeleton.
